Molecular Diagnostics

Molecular Diagnostics play a vital role in the diagnosis of infections and monitoring of their treatment by detecting the genetic material of various bacteria, viruses and parasites using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. Human gene mutations which are diagnostic of certain diseases or indicate a predisposition to a disease are also detected using the PCR technique in this department. Since they detect genetic material, PCR tests are highly specific and sensitive for disease and thereby facilitate highly accurate diagnosis and monitoring of these infections.
